Everyone knows that Vancouver Island is known as a premier destination for whale watching, but who thought we’d see a pod in our own Nanaimo Harbour? These photos were taken by Graeme Ellis, an employee at the Pacific Biological Station, on April 10th, 2009.
This particular pod of 13 is “transient” and are usually found in Alaska. After these photos were taken, the pod travelled as far as Dodd Narrows, into Nanaimo Harbour, then headed north again, up past Winchelsea.
